THE issue of adult social care is set to produce ‘the perfect storm’ for society – that was the warning from Warwickshire county Councillor Clive Rickhards (Lib Dem, Studley) to his local parish council.
Coun Rickhards said the county had already planned to cut £16 million from its budget but due to a poor Revenue Support Grant from Central Government was facing the prospect of cutting a further £5 million.
To cover costs he said the county was likely to approve a 3.99 per cent increase in its council tax take – putting about £50 on the bill of a typical house in Alcester and Studley – to pay for adult social care.
He added: “This should produce an additional £4.6 million, however this will be inadequate and will create, what the leader of the county, Councillor Izzi Secombe calls the perfect storm – how adult social care is going to be financed.”
