A FORMER poet laureate helped Birchensale Middle School pupils release their inner creativeness last week.
Giovanni Esposito, or ‘Spoz’ as he is more commonly known, led a poetry workshop for Year 7 students on Wednesday (January 27).
The session comes after a recent ‘Slam’ Poetry workshop ran by Spoz which was very popular with Birchensale pupils as they begin to realise that poetry actually forms a significant part of their popular culture.
At the end of the session, students work in groups to compete against each other for the best poetry slam performance of the day, with the winning group competing at the Palace Theatre in April against other schools across the County.
Laura Ridgewell, head of English at Birchensale, said: “The pupils enjoyed exploring poetry in a creative and unique way.
“Spoz makes poetry modern and accessible to everyone.”
