REDDITCH residents are urged consider the security of their gardens, sheds and garages to help prevent burglary and theft this spring.

As spring begins to bloom, police often tend to see an increase in thefts from gardens and sheds but there are simple and cost-effective measures homeowners can take to reduce them becoming a victim.

West Mercia Police advise locking gardening tools away and securing ladders with a chain and padlock and to consider extending your burglar alarm to cover outbuildings and sheds.

Along with checking household insurance covers theft from your garden and outbuildings, residents can also mark their property with their postcode and house number as this makes stolen items easier to trace.

Homeowners should also regularly check fences and gates are in good repair and check for any overgrown areas where someone could hide.

It also may be an idea to join your local Neighbourhood Watch scheme or start one yourself.
