A SOFA for a tenner and other brilliant bargains are on offer from Redditch re-use charity Boomerang – and they’re desperate for people to come forward and snap up the goodies.
“We’ve had so many donations come in over Christmas that this is our best ever sale,” said manager Pauline Thorne.
If prices like these for pre-loved products seem hard to believe think again, as Pauline insists they are absolutely genuine as the charity is run by unpaid staff so there is no expense on staff wages, company cars or managers, just fuel and repair costs for their van and rent.
Boomerang grew out of a trip to the tip and the frustration of seeing so many perfectly usable items going into landfill sites.
“My daughter was buying a house and we took a trip to the tip to see if there was anything cheap we could get,” said Pauline.
“We saw a cooker and fridge which were perfectly good but they wouldn’t sell them to us, saying they had to go to landfill instead.”
From this developed Boomerang, the charity specialising in reclaimed goods from house clearances.
“We’re helped by prisoners from Hewell Grange and people from the Job Centre so it means are costs are zero. However, we do have to pay rent, insurance and electricity,” added Pauline.
Boomerang is based on Hewell Road in Redditch by a garage and tyre business. For more details call Pauline on 01527 68250.
