MORE than 4,000 working families in Redditch could be subjected to a benefits freeze by 2020, and lose thousands of pounds a year, according to figures released by The Children’s Society.
The charity revealed on Tuesday that the debate in Parliament on the Welfare Reform and Work Bill could mean 4,200 households who currently receive working tax credit, child tax credits and job seekers allowance to top up their wages, could lose up to £9,000 a year if the changes go ahead.
About 11,400 children in both working and unemployed families are expected to be affected raising concerns at The children’s Society that these youngsters will fall into poverty and ‘life will become harder fro already struggling families’.
