GREAT music for a great cause is promised when local choir Tarantara take to the stage for a benefit concert in aid of the Alcester Refugee Fund (ARF).
The ARF is a group of local people moved by a common desire to make a difference to the lives of Syrian refugees, with all money raised going to the Christian charity Open Doors, which works in the refugee camps of Lebanon, Jordan and Syria itself.
Alcester resident Frank Wood went out to the camps late last year on a fact finding mission and was struck by the resilience of people who had had their lives turned upside down.
“These were people who had been evacuated from one place to another, who had been under threat of death and who had lost everything,” he said.
Tarantara are a 50 to 70 strong choir who sing a range of music from contemporary to gospel, country and beyond and the programme is sure to have something for everyone.
“The aim is to give people an enjoyable evening with a great choir and also to raise money through Open Doors which will go directly to provide food for the refugee families and particularly the schooling of the children,” said David Strickland-Eales of ARF, who is organising the concert.
“The important underlying message of it all is that the money raised will go to make a big difference to their lives.”
The evening is being sponsored so all costs will be covered ensuring that every single penny will go to help the refugees.
The concert is at 7.30pm on Saturday, March 5 at St Nicholas Church at the top of Alcester High Street and tickets are £15 each, including refreshments.
