BUSINESS-savvy students from Tudor Grange School in Redditch beat off competition from 15 other local teams to win the Coventry heat of ICAEW’s national business and accounting competition, BASE recently.
The pupils will now go on to represent the Coventry heat at the national final which takes place in Birmingham in June. This was one of 49 heats attracting over 3,000 students around the country.
The team was made up of Year 13 Business students Oliver Bushell, Molly Noke, Ella Maddocks, Hope Foster, Daniel Mills and Jordan Walsh.
Teacher Martha James said: “This is an excellent achievement by our students and I am immensely proud of them.
“It just highlights the potential our students have in what they can achieve. They not only represented the school but also Redditch in an excellent manner and we cannot wait until June and the final.”
BASE links schools, students and employers to develop employability skills and provide an insight into what a career in accountancy, business and finance might be like. Assuming the role of ICAEW Chartered Accountants, the students had two hours to analyse a business situation, before presenting their ideas to a panel of top business professionals.
Head Judge Brian Boswell, an ICAEW Chartered Accountant said: “Once more the quality of students shows that the future of business in this country is in safe hands.”
The BASE competition was supported by local firms including Grant Thornton, KPMG, Deloitte, Crowe Clark Whitehall, RSM, PwC, Reed Business School, Dains and Burgis & Bullock who provided professional mentors and judges.
