ALCESTER’S Poppy Appeal is a blooming success – reaching an all time local record-breaking total of £15,126.
The closest the town has come to breaking records previously was in 2007 when the total reached £15,094 but this year’s figure has topped all expectations.
David Malin, Poppy Appeal organiser for Alcester, said: “Last year I set a target of £15,100 so we could beat all branch records.
“It was touch and go, even though we had a very successful Poppy Shop in the town, but the townspeople have not let me down.
When I totalled the money up I was extremely excited and couldn’t wait to get the extra money banked.”
And with a few months left before the new poppy year starts, David and his team hope to raise even more with a coffee morning at the Church House on Saturday, April 16 which will run from 10am until 12 noon.
