Redditch market operators plan bright future

THE NEW operators of Redditch Market met traders on Tuesday to shed more light on plans and reassure residents of their bright ideas.

George Skett, market manager and George Dean, operations manager, arrived on behalf of Sketts Event Management and were joined by Councillor Greg Chance to discuss changes which they say will make the market more appealing to residents.

“Retail markets have struggled in recent times and not many town centres have a designated area for the market like Redditch does,” said Mr Dean.

“I think that will all come back and towns will want something like we are planning to do here.”

Sketts intend to bring in gazebos in May which can be put up or taken down when needed.

Coun Chance said: “We are really looking forward to this vibrant new market. Our traders work so hard and do a great job.

“We have been saying we are going to do something about the market for a long time and so we decided to bring in some experts. We have seen Sketts have done a fantastic job in other places and we are very excited to see the changes they are going to make and the events they are going to bring.

“It is going to work well with the Kingfisher Shopping Centre and will bring more people into the town.”
