AN ALCESTER-based author who devoted her latter years to researching and transcribing the papers of a fellow author who was born in the market town, has had her book published posthumously.
Pauline Sands, who was born in Birmingham, settled in Alcester in 1984 where she spent much time working on the papers of Fulke Greville.
Her dedication led to the publication of ‘Transcripts of the Papers of Fulke Greville’ after her death.
Alistair Brewin, from publishers Brewin Books, said: “Sadly, Pauline knew that she was unlikely to live long enough to see the publication of her book, but gave clear instructions as to how she wanted it to look.
“She had spent many hours transcribing the documents and wanted to make sure that her research did not go to waste.
“I very much hope she would be delighted with the finished product.”
Greville was born at Beauchamp Court, Alcester in 1554 and educated at Shrewsbury School and Jesus College, Cambridge before going on to serve both Queen Elizabeth I and King James I.
He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth in 1597 and later bestowed with the title of Lord Brooke by King James along with holding the parliamentary posts for Secretary to the Principality of Wales, Treasurer of the Navy and Chancellor of the Exchequer.
Fulke Greville was murdered by one of his servants and his tomb can be seen at St. Mary’s Church, Warwick.
Copies of Pauline’s book are available from Brewin Books in Studley or online at www.brewinbooks.com priced at £14.95.
