TRIBUTES have been paid to former Redditch Labour councillor Ray Beech who died recently after a battle with cancer.
Mr Beech, who represented Lodge Park from 1998 to 2002, was a qualified bookbinder and had his own business specialising in antiquarian books.
He was married to Iris, herself a Labour councillor and a former mayor of the borough.
Borough council leader Coun Bill Hartnett said: “Myself and the Mayor Coun Pattie Hill have passed on our heartfelt condolences to Iris.
Ray will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was a quiet, methodical man who went about his work effectively and without fuss.”
The couple, keen members of the Caravan Club, left Redditch in 2008 moving first to Lincolnshire and then up to Doncaster.
The flag over Redditch Town Hall is currently at half mast in honour of Mr Beech and will remain so until his funeral at Doncaster crematorium on April 1.
