In Redditch you're never too old to learn

YOU’RE never too old to learn – that’s the message from two sisters who’ve been given a new life of life after taking an Age UK course in computing.

June and Marguerite Day had shunned the advent of computers while they were still working back in the 1990s considering that the age of new technology had passed them by, only to discover that in 2016 Redditch you can’t get by without them.

“When we were at work we never used computers and never thought we’d ever have to, but these days it’s all www. this and www. that and we thought if we want to know what’s going on we’d have to go down that route,” said Marguerite.

“So we got ourselves a tablet each and started off on a course down at Age UK in Community House in Easemore Road.”

And thanks to the expert tuition of the charity’s volunteer teachers, the silver surfers took to the internet like ducks to water.

“I’m not exaggerating when I saw it has saved my life,” said June, who used to work at Bannocks Memorials at Mount Pleasant.

“When you get to my age, what are you going to do – a bit of knitting? I thought I was in my twilight years but now thanks to my tablet and what I’ve learned, a new world has opened up for me.

“It took a lot of courage to go out and do this course but I’m so glad I did now because it’s a boon for everyone. I’m currently reading about Henry Ford and it’s absolutely fascinating.”

Getting to grips with computing is just one of the courses run by Age UK in Redditch.
