A DISPUTE over parking and access rights broke into violence last week after a car was illegally clamped on Dyson’s car park in Studley.
Local resident Dan Wiggett had left his car parked on the car park, outside the Primrose Hospice shop, last Wednesday and found it clamped when he came out on the Thursday morning.
“You need a licence to clamp cars and I knew it was illegal here,” said Dan, a care worker.
The lack of parking space is becoming a major issue in Studley with the land in question is believed to be owned by former Studley greengrocer Maurice Dyson of Henley Street, Alcester.
“I asked at the shops and they said it was someone from Mr Dyson who had done it. I called the police, who contacted Mr Dyson, and we stood waiting for the police and for the clamp to be removed.”
With the police notified someone came out to take the clamp off, but Dan said he couldn’t, not until the police had arrived, and it was then that violence broke out.
“He got aggressive towards me and my girlfriend Sarah, then got physical, pushed me away and grabbed me round the throat,” said Dan.
The man left, the police arrived and Dan gave a statement. A second man then arrived who removed the clamp.
The incident is being linked to plans, passed by Stratford district council, to turn the building which used to be home to a wedding dress shop, in the same row of shops, into a pub.
The wedding dress business is now operating from the premises next-door.
Residents of properties behind the High Street say they were not notified of any planning application and that the proposed parking for the pub, two spaces to the front, lie directly in their right of way as outlined in the deeds to the properties.
They are now taking legal action to enforce their right of way and plan to appeal against the Stratford’s decision.
Mr Dyson was unavailable for comment as the Standard went to press.
