A BBC documentary on the future of food and farming is to be screened by Bromsgrove & Redditch Green Party this Friday evening in Redditch (April 15).
‘A Farm For the Future’, made by wildlife filmmaker Rebecca Hoskings, considers the possible future of farming in a world with diminishing oil.
Described as a ‘thought-provoking’ film by Redditch Green Party campaigner Alistair Waugh, the event is free, open to the public and people are encouraged to bring food for a shared buffet meal. The event starts at 7.30pm and is hosted at The Redi Centre on South Street in Redditch.
“Our current food system is in a real pickle and we need to re-think it. We rely so heavily on oil to grow our food and get it to our plates, whether that’s by truck or aeroplane, it’s really not a safe position,” said Mr Waugh.
“If oil was ever in short supply, or prohibitively expensive, then we’d face a significant food security issue. The nation has fed itself before on a Dig for Victory attitude, and was probably healthier for it. It’s time we re-localised the food system. We really can’t rely on a fossil fuel future.”
