A MAN wrongly convicted of attempted rape in Redditch in 1996 has lost the latest round of his legal fight for compensation.

Victor Nealon, who lived in the town, was given a life sentence for sexually assaulting a 22-year-old woman on her way home from a nightclub.

Mr Nealon spent 17 years behind bars after being found guilty by jury in January 1997 at Hereford Crown Court and maintained his innocence throughout the years after an appeal in 1998 was unsuccessful.

The case was eventually reopened and the 54-year-old, who is originally from Dublin, was finally acquitted of the crime after it was revealed to a Court of Appeal another man’s DNA was discovered on the victim’s clothes.

However it has now dismissed his compensation case after the High Court rejected the challenge last year.
