A REDDITCH woman has been hit with a 16 week jail term after committing six thefts in less than three weeks.

Amanda Masters, of Fulbrook Close, pleaded guilty at Redditch Magistrates Court on Tuesday (April 12) to multiple shop lifting offences, obstructing a police officer, possession of cocaine and failing to provide a sample.

The court heard how the 29-year-old had stolen more than £70 worth of items from McColls in Matchborough, between March 8 and March 20.

She also took children’s clothing from Matalan on March 30, and a Karcher steam washer worth £79 from Tesco on April 4.

Masters was found to be in breach of a suspended eight week sentence order at the time she committed the thefts.

Defence solicitor Dean Hicks, said: “This was an unsophisticated crime, having gone in and grabbed all she could and left again.

“She was without benefits at them time and did not have a methedone script.

“There should be a better system in place so those in need of benefits or these scripts do not have to wait two weeks for them.”

“She stole the washer from Tesco and was found an hour later with it.

“The cocaine was only small traces which she pleads guilty to on the basis that it was for her own personal use.”

Chair of the bench, Richard Packer, activated Masters suspended sentence and gave her another eight weeks on top for the new offences.
