A CANAL barge was broken into in Alvechurch and almost £100 was stolen.

After gaining access to the boat, the burglars stole a black purse containing £70 and a brown leather wallet containing £20.

It happened between 8pm on Sunday (April 24) and 9.15pm on Thursday (April 28).

The barge was moored up on a canal about half a mile west of the Weighbridge Inn pub.

The barge was left unattended and secure at the time.

It is not known how the perpetrators got in.

They stole the cash after conducting an untidy search.

Anyone with any information about the incident should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
