A REDDITCH grandmother has been left horrified after her grandson was headbutted and had an axe put to his throat by a man trying to rob him.

Tina Jones contacted the Redditch Standard after her grandson, Josh, was attacked in broad daylight with one of his friends who had his mobile phone stolen.

The two 15-year-olds were walking home along Bromsgrove Road towards Redditch Railway Station with a group of friends between 4.30pm and 4.50pm on Wednesday (May 11).

Josh’s friend split off from the others to make a call when a man about 18-years-old approached him and threatened him with the weapon before stealing the phone. The youngster ran off and the man then turned on Josh and headbutted him. Josh was taken to hospital and needed stitches and an eye test.

Tina said: “He was pushed against a wall and the axe was put at his throat. So it could have been much much worse. The whole thing was very scary.

“He had to have the cut on his eye glued and now has a black eye. It was traumatic but Josh is resilient.”

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact police on 101 quoting incident reference number 491s of Wednesday 11 May or to call Crimestopper anonymously on 0800 555111.
