Alcester celebrate Queen's birthday in style

THE townspeople of Alcester had a right royal day when they celebrated the Queen’s 90th birthday in style with a Court Leet Street Market.

The theme was ‘Britishness’ and the result saw the streets bedecked in red, white and blue as the town took the idea to its heart in a way that not even the odd shower could dampen.

“The whole event went very well – we had a bit of bad weather but it didn’t stop the people of Alcester coming out and thoroughly enjoying themselves,” said High Bailiff’s Lady Gill Forman.

Attractions included street entertainment, a clown, magician, stilt walker plus a Punch and Judy show.

To cap it all the Court Leet had hired a classic 1966 Route Master double decker bus which visitors could tour and, on purchase of a ticket, go for a ride in at the end of the day.

Best stall award went to Alcester Alauna Rotary Club’s ‘Time for Pimms’ run by a team of volunteers including district councillor Mike Gittus who said: “Alcester has always had a great time hosting and participating in great celebrations and they certainly came out in their thousands to enjoy this one.

“We also managed to raise £900 at our stall, money which will go directly to local, Alcester charities.”
