Nine-year-old boy has phone destroyed at a Redditch park

A REDDITCH boy who left his phone unattended for just a few minutes was heartbroken when he returned to find it had been smashed to pieces.

Nine-year old Kyle was playing with a friend in a park just two minutes walk from his house when he decided to run home to get a drink.

He quickly realised that he had left his phone in the park but when he and his friend ran back to retrieve it they found it had been smashed in two and the screen was shattered.

A large group teenagers, who were on the basket ball courts near the Railway Inn pub, denied having seen the phone. However the children believe they saw some of the youths throwing and kicking something on the basket courts near where the broken remains of the phone were found shortly after.

Mum Michelle said: “I just can’t believe this happened.

“It sounds silly, because it’s only a phone, but my son was heartbroken.

“It wasn’t expensive, but it had a lot of photographs and games on that he treasures and it allowed me to be able to contact him whenever I need to.

“My son is extremely upset and cannot understand how or why anyone would do this. It’s uncalled for and unkind.

“I would be ashamed if one of my children ever did anything like this to someone else’s property.”

The incident has been reported to the police and anyone with more information can call 101.
