Redditch councillor brings in chief to sort out break-in issue

A SPIKE in shed break-ins has prompted a borough councillor to go straight to the top and bring in Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion to look into the issue.

Coun Tom Baker-Price (Con, Headless X & Oakenshaw) took the action after garden shed break-ins reached eight in two weeks in the ward.

“My main reason was to highlight the issue of these sheds being relatively easy to break into yet they often contain lots of expensive power tools and gardening tools,” he said.

It was also a timely reminder, as the PCC devises his plan for a safer West Mercia region, to highlight the issue of shed break-ins.

“It’s about raising the profile of these break-ins and making sure householders have the knowledge to make their property safe,” said Coun Baker-Price.

“Already police have stepped up patrols in the area and are letting residents know what steps they can take to protect their possessions by offering information and advice.”

Mr Campion said,” It was important to hear the local concerns about the rise in burglaries from Coun Baker-Price. I was pleased to hear the local Police have been responding, and as Commissioner I will support the Police with the right resources and effective challenge to make sure those responsible are brought to justice.”
