Trophy triumph as Special Olympics Redditch concede just one goal on road to cup glory

SPECIAL Olympics Redditch (SO Redditch) enjoyed a major success last Sunday (August 21) after one of their football teams won the South West Regional Football tournament held at the Devon County FA ground in Newton Abbott.

The learnign disabilities team of Jason Rogers, Matthew Daykin, Rob Page, Jack Bartley, Kevin Jones and Ben O’Brien vanquished SO Plymouth 7-0, Tavistock Special Diamonds 4-0, Barnstaple Bombers 4-0, Special Olympics Cornwall 6-0, SO Plymouth seconds 7-1 before beating SO Cornwall 3-0 in the final.

In all they scored 31 goals and conceded just one.

“It was a great performance from all the team especially the two goalkeepers in the squad who only had one goal scored against them,” said Ron Daykin vice chairman of Special Olympics Redditch.
