Christmas market heading to Studley for festive lights switch-on

MARKET experts Sketts are to hold a Christmas market in Studley on December 2, the day of the big festive lights switch on in the village.

The market, to be held in the square by the old library, will run from 1pm to 8pm and is designed to complement the traditional Christmas Fayre which will be held as usual in the village hall from 6.30pm.

Parish councillors discussed the market idea at their council meeting last week with some fearing the Sketts market might impact on the fayre and raising concerns about parking but council chairman Paul Beaman said he was confident the two combined would provide a great boost to the village.

“The main event is the switch on of the Christmas lights and I am sure that both the market and the fayre will work well together,” he said.

The Christmas market has been championed by the Studley in Business group as a means of showcasing some of the firms in the village and bringing more trade to the area.

District councillor Justin Kerridge (Con, Studley & M’boro Green) said: “I think it should benefit both as with more variety it should bring more people into the village so we could find that rather being in competition with each other takings will increase as you will have another event going on nearby.”

Stratford-based Sketts run a number of highly successful markets across the region, including the popular, and expanding, Redditch market.
