HUNDREDS of shoppers flocked to the new Dunelm store today (Monday) as it opened its doors for the first time in Redditch.
Situated on Grove Street on the site of the old Staples store, the business offers bedding, curtains, blinds, furniture and more and certainly pulled in the crowds.
On hand to cut the date was borough mayor Councillor Joe Baker, accompanied by members of Redditch Rugby Club and helped by pupils from St Bede’s School choir.
“It was a privilege to open the new Dunelm store here in Redditch,” said the Mayor.
“It’s nice to see an empty unit put back into use and it’s great for employment in
Redditch too with 50 jobs created. I wish them all every success for the future.”
Local craft group, the Old Needle Works, also led two sewing workshops and showed guests how to make bunting, cushions and a variety of other crafts.
One of the first through the door was Nikki Beaman, a carer from Redditch, who said: “I love the stock Dunelm sell and it is always great value for money.
“It is really exciting to have a store in Redditch and it was a great to be one of the first customers through the doors.”
Dunelm Redditch store manager, Mark Tomkins, said: “The opening event was a great success and we really enjoyed welcoming our Redditch neighbours into our new store.
“We have been counting down the days to opening and everyone in the team worked really hard to get the store ready for the official opening day. We are looking forward to settling into our new neighbourhood and have got lots planned over the next few months for the local community.”
