Woman falls in Redditch and medics fall in love

TWO REDDITCH paramedic volunteers have tied the knot after first meeting when they attended a patient nearly six years ago.

Dave and Kelly Tew both worked in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre in 2010 where Dave was a security guard and Kelly was a manager at H Samuels jewellers.

When a woman fell outside the store Kelly rushed to help her and she was greeted by Dave who had also responded to the call. The patient needed an ambulance and once the paramedics had arrived to take her to hospital the two started chatting and a week later Dave asked Kelly to dinner and they have been together ever since.

Since then the couple have continued to respond to 999 calls and have been active with the Redditch Group of Community First Responders and West Midlands Ambulance Service, even making them part of their wedding celebrations.

Kelly turned to paramedic Sandy Potter to surprise her fiance and arranged for a service vehicle to take him to make a grand entrance at their ceremony on September 11 at the Southcrest Manor Hotel in Redditch.

Kelly said: “Huge thanks go to Sandy, Dug Holloway and the Bromsgrove AFA team for helping to make Dave’s final journey as a single man so memorable.

“We both would like to thank everyone who came to share our special day and sent their wishes to us.”
