A ‘BREAKTHROUGH’ motion has been passed by Worcestershire County Council to ensure all schools in the area introduce and follow a scheme to support LGBT pupils.

County councillor Joe Baker, who put forward the motion to introduce a mandatory toolkit for schools to use to support LGBT students, has hailed it a major breakthrough for the LGBT community.

The council was in support of the motion and announced this week that it would encourage all schools to take part in Stonewall’s education program or to use Birmingham University’s free LGBT toolkit to help school’s meet their student’s requirements.

Coun Joe Baker added: “This is a huge victory for the LGBT community and it goes to show that the hard work and dedication from the community has paid off.

“It’s a really big step forward for progress.”
