THE Primrose Hospice is £450 better off after the community rallied round to support a ten year-old Redditch lad’s coffee and cake sale in memory of his Grandad.
Ed Bird, who passed away in July this year, used to be on the motorcycle design team with BSA in Redditch, and his grandson Adam, aged ten, decided to do something special to raise money for the hospice where Ed used to go as a day patient.
Helped by all the family he turned the drive of his Grandad’s Mason Road home into a pop-up cafe complete with gazebo and cakes galore.
The response from locals was tremendous and the sale, which lasted just two hours, quickly had the sums adding up.
Adam’s proud aunt Jackie said: “It was a fantastic day, people were just dropping in and have a cuppa and a cake, they were brilliant.”
