AN AMBITIOUS five-year plan for the future of Worcestershire has been unveiled – including promises to tackle congestion and improve schools.
‘Shaping Worcestershire’s Future’ sets out the county’s goals for 2017 to 2022.
The blueprint focuses on a number of priorities, including creating more jobs and bringing council salaries in line with other counties, making sure more youngsters attend more good and outstanding schools, reducing the amount of rubbish sent to landfill and helping older people lead more independent lives.
Councillors will vote on the new 15 page document at a full council meeting in November.
Revealing the plan, Worcestershire County Council’s Leader, Councillor Simon Geraghty, said the blueprint focuses more on growing the economy rather than on cuts.
“I’m really keen to see how do we grow the income base, how do we use our assets better to close that gap, rather than just savings and efficiencies,” he said.
“There will still need to be savings and efficiencies, but hopefully if we grow the income base then that reduces the amount of savings we need to make.”
