Redditch people were urged visit the Kingfisher Shopping Centre on Tuesday (October 18) to learn how to save a life.
As part of European “Restart a Heart” Day , the campaign aims to take the fear out of CPR and encourages people of all ages to give it a try.
The CPR sessions are being held in the old Bank Shop in the shopping centre until 5pm today, and it takes just a few minutes to learn the skills that could one day save the life of a loved one.
Children and adults are urged to come and try it and get some expert tips from West Midlands General Manager Michelle Brotherton and Area Manager Nicolas Montondon.
Mayor of Redditch, Joe Baker, who attended the event, said: “I was pleased to support this event as it is vital in those first few minutes to know what to do when someone’s heart stops.
“This life saving technique allow those vital minutes until the emergency services arrive.
“Congratulations to the Underwoods for championing this along with the Ambulance Service.”
The techniques include a few simple steps to remember:
C – call for help and an ambulance.
P – press 30 compressions on the chest of the patient, following the training guidelines.
R- rescue breaths. Two breaths in between cycles of 30 chest compression can help save someone’s life.
Rob Underwood from the Charlotte and Craig Saving Hearts Foundation added: “I cannot stress how important it is for people to come down here today.
“Learn how to save a life and make a real difference.”
