AS November approaches and the country prepares to remember the soldiers who lost their lives in World War 1, the Alcester Royal British Legion are marking the occasion with a series of remembrance events in the coming weeks.

Next Saturday (October 29) the Legion are launching the local Poppy Appeal at The Methodist church in Alcester, where stalls selling poppy appeal goodies will be on offer with all profits going into the Poppy Appeal fund. Entrance costs £1, including refreshments.

On November 11, a small parade and outdoor church service will take place on the St Nicholas Church Green to remember the members of their armed forces who gave their lives for their country. Those taking part in the parade will meet outside Guys Menswear at 10.35am ready to march to the Church for the 11am Service. There will be a National Two Minute Silence at 11am and a road closure order will be in force.

On November 12, all are invited to attend to an evening of music at the Legions Poppy Concert at the Greig Centre Sports Hall, where the Alcester Male Voice Choir, Alcester Victoria Silver Band and other soloists will perform from 7pm. Tickets, available from Guys Menswear, cost £10 and all profits from the concert will go towards the Alcester Poppy Appeal fund.

On November 13, veterans, serving members of the Armed Forces, Legion Members, and the public are invited to a Remembrance Sunday Parade at St Nicholas Church. Those marching should meet in Bleachfield Street at 10.35am ready to march to St Nicholas’ for the outdoor service, wreath laying and indoor service. The parade will then march to the Town Hall. Wreaths are available from Secretary and Poppy Appeal Organiser, David Malin.
