COUNCIL staff have teamed up with Redditch police officers to ensure residents are safe when using the internet as part of Get online Week.
Redditch Mayor Councillor Joe Baker kicked off proceedings by holding a face-to-face video call meeting on Monday (October 17) with his counterpart, chairman of neighbouring Bromsgrove district council Coun Helen Jones, to make arrangements for some of their charity work.
The Square outside the Town Hall was full of stalls on Tuesday (October 18) when police officers set up shop to offer advice on online safety.
On Wednesday (October 19) Redditch Borough Council held a Go Online survey to get people finding out more about internet usage in Redditch which saw one lucky winner receive an Amazon Fire tablet.
Act on energy took part in the week’s events on Thursday and gave advice on saving on energy bills online with the help of Heart of Worcestershire College and NewStart who were also on hand to teach people some much needed computer skills and where to get the cheapest computers.
Age UK and Severn Trent also joined the group to offer even more online support.
Coun John Fisher (Lab, Matchborough), whose portfolio includes skills, said: “The internet can bring huge benefits and it’s important that nobody in Redditch is excluded from them, so we want to help and encourage people to get online.”
