Redditch school run drivers urged to mind parking or face police action

POLICE have warned motorists they may face charges if they park incorrectly whilst on the school run.
Officers have received several complaints of cars parked on footpaths, across driveways and on zigzag markings. They have therefore increased patrols around schools in the area in order to tackle to issue.
David Malin from the Alcester Safer Neighbourhood Team moved to dispel myths it is acceptable to park on double yellow lines, grass verges or on the pavement, even if drivers are just picking up or dropping off their children at school and added that the motorists were at risk of committing an offence.
“Please park considerately when dropping off children at schools. If you park on zigzag lines, you could be committing an offence of obstruction, be liable to a fine and even have your vehicle impounded.
“Vehicles cannot park, either fully or partly, on council-owned grass verges. Often there are local by-laws in place to prevent this, due to the damage vehicles can cause to grass or the need to keep access to properties clear. If the land is privately owned and the landowner gives permission, then you may be able to park on a grass verge lawfully.”
