FIREFIGHTERS from Redditch Fire Station, located on Birmingham Road, are getting ready for their annual bonfire and firework display next Saturday (November 5).
The event will open its doors at 6pm; the bonfire will be lit at 7.30pm and the firework display is scheduled to start shortly after.
There will be a range of children’s activities and roundabout rides; as well as a selection of hot food and refreshments available.
Redditch Young Firefighters will also be on hand to help with the evening and the Red Cross will be on site for any first aid requirements.
Entry is £4 per adult and £2 per child.
Following last year’s event, the Fire Service made donations to local charities, including the Red Cross and the Redditch branch of the Young Firefighters Association.
Crew Commander Bob Morris said: “Our annual Bonfire Party is an event we all look forward to and it’s great to see people enjoying both the fireworks and the traditional bonfire in a safe environment.
“A lot of our regular visitors have requested we hold the event again this year. Anyone planning to drive to Redditch Fire Station event is requested to park safely and considerately in nearby roads, as there is no parking at the fire station itself.”
Firework and Bonfire safety is a key part of Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service’s Winter Safety Campaign, and the Service has been visiting schools across Redditch to remind youngsters of the Firework Code and what they can do to stay safe in the run up to Bonfire Night.
Diwali, the Hindu festival of light, takes place before Bonfire Night this Sunday (October 30) and runs for five days.
The Service is encouraging those taking part in the festival to be equally vigilant around fireworks as well as with any candle (including tea lights or oil lamps) used in the home as part of their celebrations.
If you are holding your own display, Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service advise you to follow the below safety advice:
• Use fireworks marked with British Standard Kitemark BS7114.
• Keep fireworks in a closed metal box, making sure to take them out one at a time.
• Follow the specific instructions carefully. Read the instructions in daylight or by torchlight, never by a naked flame.
• Light fireworks at arm’s length with a taper and stand well back.
• Keep naked flames, including cigarettes, away from fireworks.
• Never go back to a firework once it is lit. Even if it hasn’t gone off, it could still explode.
