Two films specially designed to help calm animals during the stresses of bonfire night are now available online for free.
The films have been developed by MORE TH>N Pet Insurance and although to humans the short films may appear abstract and surreal, they have been designed in conjunction with animal behaviourists to induce feelings of relation and sleep in animals.
Drawing on scientific insights into the precise forms of audio and visual content that can at first capture the attention of a cat or a dog before gradually calming them, the videos are designed to be played to animals a number of times in the days leading up to the fifth of November, allowing them to become familiar with the content.
It is estimated that around 82 percent of Britain’s cats and dogs are distressed by fireworks and loud noises and it is hoped that shown on a loop these videos may help keep animals calm and happy throughout the firework season.
In addition to playing the films to cats and dogs, owners can try to reduce the impact of fireworks by letting them go outside to exercise during the day time, comforting them with cuddles and covering windows and doors from the flashing lights.
The films, which are entitled ‘Woofering Heights’ and ‘Peer Window’ in homage to the Emily Bronte and Alfred Hitchcock classic, feature the voice of actor David Tennant as soothing narrator and are available to watch at http://www.youtube.com/morethan
