THREE local schools and one community group have taken advantage of a generous offer from the Woodland Trust to supply tree saplings for planting.

In all more than 500,000 trees have been across the UK this week – 50,725 of them in the West Midlands.

Among them are 30 trees for a copse requested by Tiny Tribe in Cookhill; 60 trees for a copse requested by St Lukes Infants School on Plymouth Road and a further 30 requested by Woodfield Middle School on Studley Road.

In addition members of the Bentley Close Community Association & Neighbourhood Watch requested 30 plants for hedging, consisting of hawthorn, holly, hazel, dogwood and dogrose.

John Tucker from the Woodland Trust said: “We want to see a UK rich in native woods and trees for people and wildlife. Thanks to the thousands of schools and groups that have applied for our fantastic tree packs, that vision is a step nearer reality.”
