THE crowd of people stretched far down Pool Road as Studley witnessed its biggest Remembrance Sunday parade for decades.
With music and the service relayed through a sound system, the throng reached up and along Marble Alley as the village paid its respects.
Among those doing so were Mrs Joan Fennel who turned 90 last week and worked as a Land Girl during the Second World War.
Meanwhile Mrs Ursula Lowe laid a wreath in memory of all of the horses that died in the Battle of The Somme.
The 100th anniversary of the end of battle is today, Friday, November 18.
Dave Pegg, who led the parade said: “Over the years there has been more awareness of the sacrifices made during the war and in subsequent conflicts.
“I think when we were young World War Two was just too close but all the history programmes put it in perspective and of course there have been other conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan and Bosnia.”
Such was the impact of the parade that Studley Parish Council voted to agreed to send a letter of congratulations and thanks to the local branch of the Royal British Legion.
