FAMILIES in Redditch who have lost someone are invited to take a moment and light a lantern for their loved ones next weekend.

On Saturday (December 17) Touchstone bereavement charity are holding the short lantern walk around Morton Stanley Park on a wheelchair/buggy friendly path gives those who have lost someone a chance to remember and reflect together.

The open event starts from 5pm when lanterns can be collected before the walk at 5.30pm and the walk will include a stop in a treed area where a shared silent remembering can take place.

After this, the group will head back to the car park for hot drinks and a visit from Father Christmas, courtesy of the Redditch Round Table, who have made it possible for Santa and his lighted sleigh to visit the families at the event.

Vicki Quarton, Bereavement Services Director at Touchstones, said: “It helps to remind us that when we are struggling during the Christmas period, we are not alone and that others know the same feelings. Children love remembering their special person in such an exciting way.

“Christmas is always a hard time for these families and anyone who would like to remember someone in this way is really welcome to come along.”

Lanterns can be reserved in advance at £5 each, and can be taken home at the end.
