A HUGE bundle of blankets and bedding donated by a Redditch hotel will be delivered to those living on the streets of Birmingham this week.
AJ Bailey, head of personal training at the Abbey Hotel, said dozens of duvets, pillows and blankets have been donated so far to make life a little warmer and more comfortable for those on the streets this year.
The 34-year-old encouraged his colleagues to contribute to the collection of bedding.
“I have seen a lot of homeless people on the streets lately, and it’s something that I have wanted to help with for a long time,” he said.
“I started out by simply asking our housekeeping team if they had anything they could spare and I came away with around 12 bags filled with bedding. They’ve been really generous.
“I plan to take the blankets out with me over the next week or so and offer them to people sleeping on the streets and hope to make life a little bit more comfortable for them.”
A spokesperson from the Abbey Hotel said: “When we decided to change all our bed linen, we knew that we wanted to give it all away to a good cause, so when we were approached by Bailey from our Leisure Team we were delighted to help.
“The winter months can be very hard for homeless and vulnerable people so little acts like this really can make a difference.
“We feel that it’s important to give something back to the community and it is great to see the bedding being put to such a good use.”
Personal trainer AJ, who lives in Matchborough, hopes that others might be inspired to think of others less fortunate than themselves this Christmas and to be proactive about what they can do to make a difference.
