Redditch fund-raising rock night will boost Polish community

A MAJOR fund-raising event with music, song, dance and more is set to take place next month in Redditch organised by the local Polish community.

Backed by Mettis Aerospace Redditch among others, more sponsors and volunteers are welcome to get on board and join the fun.

Known in English as the Great Orchestra of Christmas – or Wielka Orkiestra Swiatecznej pomocy in Polish – it will be the first time it has ever been held in the West Midlands.

“Wosp is the largest non-profit, non-governmental organisation in Poland and the goal is to improve the medical care offered to the most vulnerable patients as well as working to refurbish wards treating newborns, young children, and elderly patients,” said co-organiser Monika Sedlak.

“At the same time we aim to introduce innovative medical practices and treatments and promoting first aid and CPR awareness in primary schools all over Poland.”

And in exchange for donations Monika and her co-organisers Kamila Poczatek and Frankie Prazer are promising visitors will have a fantastic time.

It all takes place at the Railway Inn on Hewell Road starting on Saturday, January 14 with a ‘Night of Rock’ followed on Sunday, January 15 by a full programme of events from 1.30pm including everything from stalls selling Polish and English arts and crafts to traditional music and dance as well as a hosat of childrens’ activities.

“The music will be from acoustic to rock to pop and ska for all ages. We aim to turn heads and bring the communities together through singing and dancing!” said Monika.

Zumba classes are also promised as well as delicious traditional Polish food to enjoy.

Those soaking up the atmosphere will be borough leader Councillor Bill Hartnett, the Mayor Coun Joe Baker, and Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion.
