A COMPOST bin or food digester is the ‘perfect gift for your loved one’ according to Worcestershire county council.
The authority, which looks after environmental and transport matters in Redditch says: “It might not seem the obvious choice, but why not get that someone special a compost bin or food waste digester?
“Keen gardener or not, even those with a little bit of outside space can still reap the rewards of owning a compost bin. There’s even a solution for people with no garden at all (a food digester).”
Councillor Anthony Blagg, (Con, Bromsgrove Central) cabinet member for the environment said: “At Christmas we produce more food waste than at any other time of the year so why not compost your vegetable peelings? The remnants of your New Year’s Eve party will also be a welcome addition to your compost bin including the nut shells and cocktail sticks.
“Compost bins make a great Christmas present for green-fingered friends and family – the only downside is the amount of wrapping paper you have to use! But this can always be recycled in your green bin afterwards.”
The bins start at £9.50 plus £5 delivery. To order yours visit www.getcomposting.com or call 0844 571 4444.
