A FOND farewell was given to a much-loved Redditch lollipop lady this week at a special school assembly marking her 33 years of service.
Lollipop lady Pat Hemming was invited to St Stephens First School last Friday (December 16) where she was presented with a bouquet of flowers and a voucher for £100 on behalf of the parents, staff and children, in recognition of her service spanning more than three decades..
Mrs Hemming was also given cards that had been made by each class with a personal message written by every child in the school, and thanked by Headteacher Mrs Sarah Callanan for her dedication to keeping the children, both past and present, safe.
The popular lollipop lady took the occasion to tell the children some stories about her career and made them all laugh as she explained how she was paid just £1 per week when she first started her job.
Deputy Head Sarah Barrett said: “Sadly we had to say farewell to Mrs Hemming, who has been our Lollipop Lady here at St Stephens for the last 33 years.
“Everyone at St Stephens First School will miss Mrs Hemming very much and all wish her a very happy retirement.”
