A remarkable year for Britain, Redditch and myself says Karen Lumley MP

PARLIAMENT finished for the Christmas recess on Tuesday of last week and doesn’t sit again until January 9. And reflecting on 2016, this really has been a remarkable year for Britain, Redditch and for me.

It’s been six months since the UK voted to leave the EU and as you know I am fully behind the decision.

The Prime Minister has been clear there must be no attempt to remain inside the EU, no attempt to rejoin it through the back door, and no second referendum. Article 50 will be triggered no later than the end of March 2017.

With Theresa May as our Prime Minister, there is no-one better to provide the strong leadership Britain needs for this serious and complex task.

For Redditch of course the main issue has been our hospital. We started this year with a declaration of the preferred Clinical Model for services across the Trust and, although it has taken a long time, things have all of a sudden taken a turn for the better under the firm leadership of new Trust chair Caragh Merrick.

I have great confidence that under her, the public consultation will get under way and that our hospital in Redditch will continue to thrive with better and more modern facilities.

Finally, this autumn saw me admitted to the Alexandra Hospital for major surgery. This was in October and I am making great progress towards recovery and am looking forward to the New Year and getting back into my stride.

Hopefully all three of these issues will see considerable positive movement next year – Brexit, the Alexandra Hospital and my health!
