PARENTS have rallied round in support of a Redditch out-of-school-club in the wake of a recent Ofsted report.
Both in person and on social media, parents of children who attend Y Play have voiced their support for the club run by YMCA Worcestershire, which was judged to be inadequate in its latest Ofsted inspection
The report, published on January 4, said management at the club based at Willow Trees Children’s Centre do not have a good understanding of “legal requirements” therefore children’s safety and well-being are compromised.
In response to this, Ryan Kettles, manager of YPlay said: “Within one day of the original inspection, we had booked in the relevant safeguarding training workshops for all our staff, which will quickly bring us all back up to speed with the legal requirements.
“In a meeting we held with staff for parents to discuss any questions or queries relating to the report, we experienced nothing but support. Parents – both current and past – have come out to show their support for us on social media too, so we are confident that we can make the required changes.”
The education watchdog found the club, which has 32 children on its roll, to be inadequate in two areas: effectiveness of leadership and personal development, behaviour and welfare, and the quality of learning was found to be requiring improvement.
However, it also found that children in the care of Y Play staff were “happy and confident”, that staff build positive relationships, that communication with parents is good and parents are “very positive” about the club.
Mr Kettle, who is confident in making the improvements quickly and effectively, added: “We are looking forward to our next inspection and are already implementing the necessary improvements. The active support of our parents means a lot and we are looking forward to the future.”
