STUDENTS at a Redditch school were left in a spin last week when a special guest visited them to share his talents and advice.
Double world-champion and X-Games silver medalist inline skater Richard Parker visited Saint Augustine’s Catholic High School last Thursday (January 12) to deliver the Sky Sports Living for Sport programme and showcase some of his skating skills.
Richard delivered a motivational assembly to the students of Year 10 on the theme of resilience sharing his journey from his early days skating in Bristol to becoming double world champion before working with groups of Year 9 students in a practical skating session.
29-year-old Rich is an Athelete Mentor for the Sky Sports Living for Sport programme, which is designed to teach students six keys to success which can be used to help them develop at school, in sport and their life away from education.
Nick Murphy, PE teacher at the school, said: “The sessions were brilliantly engaging and as well as enjoying the practical element of the session the students took away vital messages with regards to hard work, dedication and supporting each other.”
When he became an Athlete Mentor for Sky Sports Living for Sport in 2016, Birmingham-born Richard said: “I am excited to be able to use the skills I have learned to offer that same support to young people and to help them to achieve their goals.”
