Redditch Scouts celebrate 40th birthday with outdoor fun

THE 1st Church Hill Scout Group Redditch joined volunteers from Church Hill Big Local Partnership to spruce up their grounds ready to celebrate their 40th anniversary.

The miserable weather last Sunday (January 29) did not deter the intrepid crew as they constructed a living willow igloo and turned railway sleepers into raised planting beds.

Graham Penny, Group Scout Leader, said: “After 40 years of Scouting at The Barn, Church Hill, it was looking a bit tired, but in partnership with Church Hill Big Local we have been able to achieve a refurbishment we would have spent many years fundraising to even get close to realising.

“We can now look forward to many more years of Scouting for ages six years to 14 years of age. This will also enable us to let out the main hall to other local clubs and groups helping them to develop within the community.”

Stephen Betteridge, from Church Hill Big Local Partnership, stressed that helping the Scout Group make their premises sustainable for the future is part of the ethos behind the National Lottery-funded project.
