A SPECIAL exhibition on PC James Davies, the only serving police officer in Worcestershire to be murdered in the line of duty, will form part of the annual Snowdrop Weekend at St Leonard’s Church in Beoley.

As well as a carpet of beautiful flowers, the church will also showcase of many local and church groups, include Church Hill Big Local Partnership and Beoley Women’s Institute at the event on February 11 and 12.

PC Davies was killed more than 100 years ago in 1885 and his headstone lies in a special plot in the graveyard which is regularly tended by one of the parishioners.

The ancient graveyard also contains the remains of several notable people and these will be featured in a tour for those attending. In addition there will also be the now well-established children’s competitions with prizes for winners and runners-up.

Children will also be invited to search the church and grounds for miniature shepherds and their sheep, and participate in a range of craft activities.

The results of the photographic competition will be on the Sunday at 2.30pm. They will be presented by Trevor Bland, chair of Beoley Parish Council. Refreshments and lunches will be provided by the Mothers Union branch of the church and the whole weekend will end with a special marriage re-affirmation service.

Entry is free but donations will be welcomed.

The Snowdrop Weekend will mean certain sections of the church is be closed off for redecorating following the theft of lead from the roof.
