Redditch British Legion smash fund-raising total again

Redditch Editorial 20th Feb, 2017   0

ASTWOOD Bank Royal British Legion has once again smashed their Poppy Appeal record collecting £26,000 to help old soldiers and their dependents.

The driving force behind last year’s collection was Brian Parkinson the local organiser who, together with a small army of helpers, managed to bring in the bumper sum.

The record comes at a time when two of the club’s members, Eric Taylor and Arthur Hammond were appointed to the rank of Chevalier in the Order national de la Legion d’Honneur.

Poppy awards were also handed out by the branch to Ann Pyne – a 45 year bar, Barbara Blundell – a 20 year badge, Margaret Andrew – a 15 year brooch, while Lesley Jones, Julia Neale and Brian and Rene Phillips all got ten year certificates.

John and Gill Baker, Gill Croft and the Reverend Jim Symonds were all given five year certificates.

Astwood Bank RBL meet every quarter at Astwood Bank Club with the next one scheduled for May 3 at 7pm.
