THE eyes of the world will be on Redditch when the Tour Series town centre bike returns to town in May.
The season long events kicks off in Redditch on Tuesday, May 9 and everyone is invited to go along to the free event and cheer on the cream of cycling talent as they battle it out for victory on the borough’s streets.
It means that for one day only, Redditch town centre will turn into a pro racing circuit with famous cyclists – and perhaps an Olympic champion of two – out to win.
Previous winners have included Olympic Gold Medallist Laura Trott and this year promises to be another amazing spectacle.
Redditch borough council alongside partners Worcestershire County Council are excited to bring the Tour Series back to Redditch for the sixth year, with the added excitement of it being the first round.
Spectators will not only be able to enjoy the main Tour Series event but are also hosting a special Pro Time Trial, as well as the usual community and business races. With events and activities throughout the town there really is something for all the family.
And with elite mens and womens races, plus the pictures being beamed across the world, it promises to be a fantastic showcase for Redditch.
Councillor Bill Hartnett, leader of Redditch borough council, said: “This is a great event for Redditch and I’m pleased we are hosting it again. I have been working on securing its return almost since the last bike crossed the line last May and I am particularly happy to see even more community involvement now, with local businesses invited to join in the fun.
“You only have to see the crowds that flock to the town when it’s on to understand the excitement and opportunities it brings for a lot of people.”
Councillor Ken Pollock, cabinet member with responsibility for economy, skills and Infrastructure said: “We are so pleased to be bringing the Tour Series back to the county for the sixth year. The event has really been embraced by Redditch and we have seen visitor numbers grow year on year as well as seeing great economic benefits to the local area.
“The event is a great show case for the county, increasing tourism, supporting local business and increasing community interest in cycling – another great example of World Class Worcestershire being Open for Business.”
This year, there is also the opportunity to put business right at the heart of it, with one of the specially tailored sponsorship packages.
Local firms will be able to put their company’s name in front of an audience of millions with a range of sponsorship packages from Gold Sponsor to Affiliate Sponsor starting at just £1,000, as well as hospitality tickets for just £55 per person.
It’s another way Worcestershire’s businesses and organisations can proudly support their local community – indeed, it can even form part of their businesses corporate social responsibilities.
