Redditch man going the distance to help guide dogs

A PASSIONATE Redditch man is taking on a marathon challenge to help support guide dogs in the UK.

Mike Tansley, from Callow Hill, will be taking on the London Marathon next month, covering a grueling 26 miles to make it across the finish line.

The 33-year-old is aiming to raise at least £2,000 for Guide Dogs charity and hopes that people will support him in his ambition.

“I have taken on the challenge to run the London Marathon for Guide Dogs as I have been inspired by the life changing work that they do,” he said.

“For eight years my sister Laura Tansley has worked for Guide Dogs as a trainer and I have been amazed to hear some of her incredible stories about their work.

“Guide Dogs help provide people with sight loss with mobility and independence to ensure they can get out and about safely and on their own terms. The money I raise will go towards creating more Guide Dog partnerships and helping more people.”

Logistics Analyst Mike has only been running for a few years and sees the marathon as something of a personal challenge: “If I am able to achieve this goal, it will really help me push towards that finish line on the day,” he said.

“I never used to enjoy running long distance and used to avoid it completely. I did my first mud run three years ago but challenged myself last year running over 10k for the first time.

“In the same month as running over 10k I had the good idea of entering my name in to the London marathon.

“I haven’t regretted it yet and it will definitely be worth it once I hit my fundraising target and cross the finish line.”
