A REDDITCH mum is hoping her newly published children’s book will help youngsters accept and celebrate families with unconventional dynamics.

Mum of two, Melanie McClusky, has written and illustrated the book titled ‘I’m Not Different’ which explores different types of non-traditional family dynamics, such as single parent and same-sex parents families.

The self published author visited Little Oaks Preschool on Plymouth Road to read her new book “I’m Not Different” to the children last Friday (March 3) and hopes that children who read it will learn to be open and proud of their family, no matter what form it takes.

“Initially I wrote the book for my young daughters, Lylah and Aeryn, as I wanted them to have a good understanding of alternative family situations.

“But then I began to get feedback from people and I realised the story was something that could help others,” she said.

“There aren’t many children’s books that confront the stigmas of non traditional family dynamics, so it is ideal for children who are adopted or fostered or may have been raised by grandparents.”

Melanie’s book is available to buy on Amazon and she is current;y in discussions with Redditch Library and local nurseries about doing more reading events.
